In our complicated world, children need to be able to do much more than repeat a list of facts. Children need to develop cognitive flexibility to absorb new information and respond to complex problems. They need to be critical thinkers who can make sense of information, analyze, compare, contrast, make inferences, and generate higher order thinking skills. At Bais Yaakov Ateres Miriam we give our students the tools to acquire these skills.
Bais Yaakov Ateres Miriam’s academic curriculum brings rigorous core knowledge in Lemudei Kodesh and Lemudei Chol to our students, in a developmentally appropriate way. Our students are engaged in a purposeful, inquiry-driven curriculum. Stimulating lessons combine with interactive activities and projects that encourage problem solving, cooperative learning, resilience, and critical thinking skills.
Bais Yaakov Ateres Miriam teachers know every child well and can differentiate their teaching to reach each learner by encouraging and facilitating student questioning and critical thinking.

Middos and Hashkafos
Positivity and joy permeate the atmosphere of Bais Yaakov Ateres Miriam. Visitors to BYAM attest to a feeling of warmth and happiness throughout the school.
The hanhala and teachers give the girls a deep-seated knowledge of Torah and mitzvohs. Our lessons and programs are designed to help them forge a concrete and real connection to Hashem, pride in being a Bas Yisroel, and imbue them with the importance of having respect and sensitivity for others.
The close relationship our students have with the administration and teachers helps them build the social, emotional, and cognitive skills essential for success in school and life. Our goal is for our students to emerge as confident, caring, and refined Bnos Yisroel with a strong connection to Hashem and Torah.
Specialties
Music
Bais Yaakov Ateres Miriam students go eagerly to their music class. Our students are learning to read and produce rhythms, make musical instruments, play guitar, and use a variety of musical materials. Little do they know that while they are having fun and learning about music, they are also practicing cognitive flexibility, honing their listening skills, and exercising their coordination.
Art
Our art program implements TAB- Choice Based Art, a cutting-edge method of Teaching for Artistic Behavior. This individualized program allows the girls to gain skills in multiple areas, use their creativity, and build their self-esteem.
BYAM students are passionate about their art classes. They begin with the basics of drawing, painting and collage and move on to construction, fiber arts, sculpture, and printmaking. Ultimately, each student finds the art medium she loves most.
Gym
BYAM gym classes give students the opportunity for healthy movement with indoor gymnastics as well as outdoor team sports. Our gym classes emphasize movement and middos, as our students understand the importance of activity and working together as a team.
Parent Involvement
The parents, teachers, and administration of Bais Yaakov Ateres Miriam work together as a team to ensure that each child’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive needs are met. Bais Yaakov Ateres Miriam regards our parent body as partners in the chinuch of our talmidos.
Our PTA is a vibrant and essential part of our school. Mother-daughter functions, walkathons, and Rosh Chodesh specials are only a few of the exciting programs that the PTA brings to our school. Our PTA Presidium welcomes mothers to join the PTA where they can bring their ideas, talents, and time to helping Bais Yaakov Ateres Miriam.
Early Childhood Department
Young children are curious and questioning. They want to know about the world around them and have a drive to learn. They are powerful thinkers, creators, and problem solvers. Bais Yaakov Ateres Miriam understands and fosters this. Our goal is to help each child excel at her own developmentally appropriate rate, as an emotionally healthy and intellectually growing child.
Our curriculum focus is on concrete, hands-on learning which is so important for young learners. Each classroom, its equipment, and its materials are tailored to the needs of young children. Our professional and experienced teachers facilitate our students’ learning. They bring children to new levels of cognitive and social emotional growth through exploration of materials and interaction.
